Former Senator Begins Prison Sentence for Bribery

Menendez was the first sitting federal legislator to ever be found guilty of serving as a foreign agent.

Former Senator Robert Menendez reported to federal prison in Pennsylvania this week after being sentenced to eleven years for bribery and acting as a foreign agent. Senator Menendez received at least $480,000 in cash and multiple luxurious gifts from Egyptian foreign intelligence to influence U.S. immigration and business policy. The judge had granted Menendez a postponement to his sentence to attend his step-daughter’s wedding.

Menendez has now become the only U.S. Senator to be convicted of acting as a foreign agent. During the nine-week trial in Manhattan earlier this year, prosecutors called the crimes perpetrated by Menendez to be “stunningly venal” and the most serious “in the history of the Republic.” Prosecutors also argued for a sentence even stiffer than the one imposed, but the former senator’s lawyers maintained that would essentially be a “death sentence“ for the 71-year-old politician.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For former Senator Menendez as he begins serving his federal sentence.
  • For members of both chambers of Congress to serve with honesty and integrity.
  • For wisdom for Attorney General Pam Bondi as she oversees the Justice Department.
