The Good News

He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.  – Psalm 112:7

Where do you get your news? It’s a question that can divide any room. Regardless of where you find your reports on world and local events, there is only one place to find the good news you can trust.

In the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah predicted an approaching hope for God’s people. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news… who says to Zion, Your God reigns” (Isaiah 52:7). In the New Testament, God’s blessing arrives, announced by a host of angels. “I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10).

God’s Son, Jesus of Nazareth, is revealed as the long-awaited Messiah. “The blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them” (Matthew 11:5).

After His sacrificial death, Jesus is resurrected to life bringing salvation to every person and fulfilling God’s promise to rescue his people. “And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus” (Acts 13:32-33).

Regardless of the bad news you may hear or see today, remind yourself of the Good News in God’s Word that will keep your heart and faith steady. Pray for those working in the American media to accept God’s invitation to faith and accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 112:7

But this I call to mind,
    and therefore I have hope:
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “therefore I will hope in him.”
25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
    to the soul who seeks him.
26 It is good that one should wait quietly
    for the salvation of the Lord.
