Treasury Secretary Warns California Governor Over Proposed Tax Evasion

Governor Newsom suggested his state would not send billions in taxes to the federal government.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently warned Governor Gavin Newsom of California over his response to President Donald Trump suggesting that federal funds to his state would be canceled. Governor Newsom proposed that his state would refuse to send $80 billion in taxes to the federal government.

Secretary Bessent stated that Governor Newsom’s “comments are extremely reckless. Instead of committing criminal tax evasion, Governor Newsom should consider a tax plan for California that follows the Trump Tax Cuts model and reduces the onerous state tax burden to allow families to keep more of their hard-earned money.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Bessent as he provides feedback on federal tax law regarding revenue from states.
  • For state governors to receive God’s wisdom to lead their states and municipalities.
