He cites a private sector opportunity “too exciting to pass up” for his departure.
Representative Mark Green of Tennessee announced that he will resign from Congress after the House votes again on the reconciliation bill for President Trump’s agenda, further tightening the slim majority House Speaker Mike Johnson has to work with. Although the four-term congressman and chair of the House Homeland Security Committee had intended to resign after his last term, he remained to support the president’s policies.
“Though I planned to retire at the end of the previous Congress, I stayed to ensure that President Trump’s border security measures and priorities make it through Congress,” Representative Green said. “By overseeing the border security portion of the reconciliation package, I have done that.”
“Recently, I was offered an opportunity in the private sector that was too exciting to pass up,” stated Congressman Green. “As a result, today I notified the Speaker and the House of Representatives that I will resign from Congress as soon as the House votes once again on the reconciliation package.”
“It was the honor of a lifetime to represent the people of Tennessee in Congress,” he added. “They asked me to deliver on the conservative values and principles we all hold dear, and I did my level best to do so.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Speaker Mike Johnson as he presides over the business of the House of Representatives.
- For Congressman Michael McCaul as he prepares to fill in as chair of the House Homeland Security Committee.
- For the Lord to bless Representative Green as he transitions from Congress to the private sector.
