U.S. Marines Mobilize to Back Up Law Enforcement in Los Angeles

The president has not declared an insurrection yet as the riots have continued.

Hundreds of U.S. Marines are being mobilized to assist local law enforcement in Los Angeles after deploying 2,000 National Guard two days ago to protect federal property as anti-immigration enforcement riots rage. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he put active-duty personnel from Camp Pendleton in California, on high alert on Saturday.

On Monday, U.S. Northern Command stated, “Approximately 500 Marines from 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines at Twentynine Palms, California, are in a prepared to deploy status should they be necessary to augment and support the DoD’s protection of federal property and personnel efforts.”

Governor Gavin Newsom’s office sued the president’s administration on Monday for deploying the National Guard to quell the riots without his input. He claimed, “This is a manufactured crisis.“

President Trump said that the city “would have been completely obliterated” if he had not taken action. The president cited U.S. Code Title 10, Section 12406 in his executive order, which permits the National Guard to be deployed due to invasion from a foreign nation, a rebellion “or danger of rebellion.” The Insurrection Act of 1807 also allows the National Guard and U.S. military to be utilized to quell domestic disorder or violence.

Rioters have attacked federal buildings and law enforcement officers with projectiles and commercial-grade fireworks. Law enforcement has reportedly used rubber bullets against some of the demonstrators.

The robotic car company Waymo has suspended the driverless service in the Los Angeles area after several rioters set its autonomous electric cars on fire. The company has offered footage from its high-tech cameras to assist law enforcement in identifying and arresting perpetrators.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump to receive God’s guidance as he responds to the riots in Los Angeles.
  • For the Lord’s protection of the National Guard personnel, Marines, and law enforcement as they seek to restore peace.
