The State Department has followed through on warnings regarding the participation in Cuba’s medical mission program, which reportedly utilizes human trafficking and enslavement. Seventy-five percent of Cuba’s exported workforce is comprised of medical professionals, who receive very little or no pay.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Central American “officials responsible for Cuban medical mission programs that include elements of forced labor and the exploitation of Cuban workers” would have their visas restricted.
“These steps promote accountability for those who support and perpetuate these exploitative practices,” Secretary Rubio said. “The Cuban labor export program abuses the participants, enriches the corrupt Cuban regime, and deprives everyday Cubans of essential medical care that they desperately need in their homeland.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Rubio as he implements measures to counter human trafficking and exploitation.
- For State Department officials as they advocate for compliance with civil rights and humanitarian agreements.
- For discernment for President Trump as he considers measures to increase national security while upholding civil rights.
