He is meeting with members of the upper chamber to garner support for the “Big, Beautiful, Bill.”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune is attempting to finalize President Donald Trump’s long-anticipated megabill within a month, scheduling back-to-back debates and negotiations to meet his party’s July 4 deadline. The Senate committees reviewing the “Big, Beautiful Bill” plan to release their revisions to the text of the bill by the end of next week, and the Senate majority leader is meeting in person with colleagues who have voiced reluctance to back the legislation.
Throughout this process, Senator Thune has been in close communication with President Trump.
“He’s been very engaged,” the senator from South Dakota said. “I think he would do that whether we asked [or not], but we tried to give him some direction, yeah.”
“It’s striking the right balance,” Senator Thune said of making successful negotiations. “There are a ton of tradeoffs you have to make.”
Senator Thune stated, “I think we’re on track — I hope, at least — to be able to produce something that we can pass through the Senate, send back to the House, have them pass and put on the president’s desk by the Fourth of July.“
