President Considers Sanctions Against Ukraine and Russia as Attacks Continue

President Trump likens the two nations’ leaders to fighting children or hockey players who hate each other.

After months of attempts to broker a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, President Donald Trump is considering sanctions against Ukraine and Russia as the two nations have continued to attack each other. While the U.S. president has been committed to ending the war in Ukraine since the start of his second term, the presidents of Russia and Ukraine have rejected the proposed conditions for a ceasefire.

After speaking with President Putin earlier this week, President Trump stated, “It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate peace.“ He later compared the hatred between the two nations to a conflict between children.

“Sometimes you see young children fighting like crazy. They hate each other and they’re fighting in a park,” President Trump said during a meeting with German Chancellor Merz. “You try to pull them apart and they don’t want to be pulled apart.”

President Trump added, “Sometimes you have to let them fight for a while.” He said he has considered imposing sanctions on both countries if the conflict continues. He expressed the belief that President Putin would like to control all of Ukraine.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for President Trump and his foreign policy advisors as they assess the peace negotiation efforts to date.
  • For U.S. officials to be discerning regarding efforts to stop the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
