Education Department Dismisses Suit Against GCU

The previous administration had imposed millions of dollars in fines over allegations of deceptive program pricing.

The Department of Education permanently dropped its $37.7 million fine against Grand Canyon University (GCU) last month, clearing the Christian university of any wrongdoing for allegedly misleading students on the price of its doctoral programs.

In October 2023, President Biden’s administration imposed the fine after the Office of Federal Student Aid alleged that “GCU lied about the cost of its doctoral programs to attract students to enroll” to more than 7,500 current and former students. The department accused the school of misrepresenting the cost of its doctoral programs on its website by advertising that they cost $40,000 to $49,000 when less than 2 percent of graduates completed their course of study within that price range.

President Trump’s Education Department dismissed this fine with prejudice, meaning that it cannot be refiled by future administrations.

“The facts clearly support our contention that we were wrongly accused of misleading our Doctoral students and we appreciate the recognition that those accusations were without merit,” stated GCU President Brian Mueller.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the education secretary and department officials as they review policies and actions taken under the previous administration.
  • For wisdom for President Trump and Education Secretary McMahon as they seek to return oversight of education to the states.
