I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth. – Psalm 46:10
A young scrappy youth comes upon the battlefield where his brothers are poised to fight with a large army against an even more impressive enemy. Gathered opposite each other, they are ready to raise arms when a giant of a man emerges from the enemy’s ranks shouting antagonistic slurs against his foes and their God. The boy is adamant that this ranter be silenced, but no one steps forward… until he takes the job upon himself.
David is not arrogant; he is confident in the Lord. In 1 Samuel 17:45-46, David says, “I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts… whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down… that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” And at the hand of David, by the Lord’s doing, Goliath fell!
Is there a Goliath in your way, keeping you from doing the things that need to be done, preventing you from accomplishing those tasks set before you that will sustain your family or give healing to the sick? At times of greatest agony, heed the instruction from Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Allow the Lord to calm any anxiety or fear and release the apprehension or impatience that has formed in your soul. Almighty God is still sovereign! His timing is perfect. He can be trusted to lead you in the right direction.
As you pray for the needs of your family and of this nation, lift up God’s name and give Him glory. Praise Him for what He has done and will do for you.

O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you.
Be our arm every morning,
our salvation in the time of trouble.
3 At the tumultuous noise peoples flee;
when you lift yourself up, nations are scattered,
4 and your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathers;
as locusts leap, it is leapt upon.
5 The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high;
he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness,
6 and he will be the stability of your times,
abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;
the fear of the Lord is Zion’s treasure.
