Four individuals posed as Amazon truck drivers for four years.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged four people for posing as Amazon truck drivers as part of a crime ring to steal products from the massive shipping company. The indictment states that these four people engaged in this scheme since at least 2021, stealing more than $83 million worth of products from Amazon’s California warehouses.
“At present, Amazon is plagued by recurring thefts of its shipments, which is commonly referred to as ‘cargo theft,’” the department’s complaint stated.
Amazon complied with the Justice Department in its investigation and issued a statement after the department’s announcement warning against similar crimes against the company.
“These referrals have resulted in arrests, product seizures and recoveries, and the dismantling of [organized retail crime] networks in the U.S. and around the world,” the company stated.
