USDA and Interior Coordinate on Wildfire Preparedness

The departments issued a joint memo outlining strategies for rapid, unified wildfire responses during peak season.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum signed a joint memorandum this month to support wildfire preparedness and coordination between their departments for the 2025 fire season. The move follows an operational briefing at the USDA Forest Service National Fire Desk, where officials reviewed this year’s elevated fire risk.

“Now more than ever, Secretary Burgum and I are working in lockstep, alongside our federal partners, to effectively combat wildfires. At USDA we are ensuring the entire Department is geared to respond to what is already an above-normal summer fire season. We are providing the resources needed to ensure the Forest Service has the strongest and most prepared wildland firefighting force in the world,” said Secretary Rollins.

The agreement emphasizes federal, state, local, and Tribal collaboration to enhance wildfire response efforts, prioritizing rapid containment, public safety, and protection of natural resources.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretaries Burgum and Rollins as they coordinate wildfire response preparations.
  • For USDA and Interior officials as they evaluate the elevated wildfire threats.
  • For God’s protection over wildland firefighters as they prepare to extinguish blazes.
