The legislation would block pregnant foreign travel to attain U.S. citizenship for newborns.
Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee introduced a bill that is intended to prevent “birth tourism” to the United States, a practice where pregnant mothers from other countries give birth in America so their children attain U.S. citizenship. Senator Blackburn said that these mothers often declare transporting hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash as they enter the country, often making several trips to obtain U.S. citizenship for each child they have.
“Foreign nationals have been exploiting our nation’s immigration laws for far too long, taking advantage of the system to come to the United States for the sole purpose of giving birth to obtain U.S. citizenship for their children,” Senator Blackburn said. “The Ban Birth Tourism Act would prevent foreign nationals, including those from adversaries like Communist China and Russia, from buying American citizenship for their children. As President Trump works to end birthright citizenship, we need to get this bill to his desk.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Senator Blackburn as she seeks to protect the United States and taxpayers from birth tourism.
- For President Trump and members of his administration as they work to ensure immigration and citizenship laws are upheld and enforced.
