The agency highlights steps for food safety to avoid foodborne illness.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) released food safety guidelines for outdoor summer grilling. The steps to safe cookouts include cleaning your grill well, preheating the grill before cooking, and using separate plates for raw and cooked meats.
“Food safety is a year-round priority, but it’s especially important during summer months when we’re cooking outdoors and handling food in warmer temperatures,” said FSIS Administrator Denise Eblen. “We have simple but effective steps that can keep you and your family safe while enjoying those outdoor meals.”
In addition to the guidelines on the FSIS website, the USDA has a Meat and Poultry hotline for consumers who would like more information.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Administrator Eblen to receive God’s direction as she heads the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.
- For the Lord to lead Secretary Brooke Rollins as she oversees the various agencies in the Department of Agriculture.
- For discernment for Americans in their handling of raw meats as they invite others for cookouts and prepare to grill.
