Last-minute negotiations satisfied members with regard to SALT deduction caps and the Medicaid work requirement deadline.
The House of Representatives narrowly passed President Donald Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill” to fund his second term agenda Thursday morning.
After intense negotiations, an amendment moved the Medicaid work requirement deadline up from New Year’s Day 2029 to December 31, 2026. States may also lose some federal funding if they cover illegal immigrants. The bill would also raise the nation’s debt ceiling.
Speaker Mike Johnson said, “Today, the House has passed generational, truly nation-shaping legislation.” He expressed hope that the Senate would give it “timely consideration” and that legislation might reach President Trump for signing by July 4.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Speaker Johnson and representatives in the House leadership as they deliberate legislation and conduct oversight.
