The two nations agreed to exchange POWs but did not agree to a ceasefire.
Peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia lasted for two hours on Thursday after each country’s president refused to attend the meeting. This is the first time officials from the two nations have met since Russia attacked Ukraine three years ago, and Ukrainian negotiators aired their criticisms of Russia’s demands once the meeting concluded.
Ukraine has refused to accept the possibility of Russia keeping the land under its control while expressing a desire for an immediate ceasefire.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been advocating for an end to the conflict in Ukraine to stop the bloodshed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated after a call with President Trump on Thursday that “Ukraine is ready to take the fastest possible steps to bring real peace” but “if the Russians reject a full and unconditional ceasefire tough sanctions must follow.”
A U.S. delegate was prepared to join the discussion but was reportedly blocked from participating by the Russian delegation.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for President Trump as he continues to seek an end to the war in Ukraine.
- For Secretary Rubio and Envoy Witkoff to be discerning as they engage in diplomatic negotiations.
