The now-deleted picture is alleged to have called for the assassination of the president.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Thursday that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Secret Service have launched an investigation into former FBI Director James Comey after he briefly posted an image of seashells on social media arranged to form the numbers “86 47.”
86 is a restaurant term meaning that something has been eliminated from the menu, and 47 refers to the 47th President Donald Trump.
“Cool shell formation on my beach walk,” the former FBI director had written in the caption.
Secretary Noem and the president’s son Donald Trump, Jr. each separately interpreted the post as a call to kill President Trump.
Mr. Comey took down the post within a few hours after others online offered this violent interpretation of the seashells, stating that he “didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence.“
He wrote, “It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.“
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secret Service agents as they work to protect President Trump and other government officials.
- For Secretary Noem to be led by God as she heads the Department of Homeland Security.
- For the safety of President Trump as he travels to engagements, meetings, and discussions.
