President Trump Announces Trade Deal with United Kingdom

This is the first trade pact after he paused reciprocal tariffs last month.

President Donald Trump announced the U.S. has reached a trade deal with the United Kingdom, the first economic agreement made after his administration paused its reciprocal tariffs in April.

“The agreement with the United Kingdom is a full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come,” President Trump stated on Thursday after hinting at the announcement the night before. “Because of our long time history and allegiance together, it is a great honor to have the United Kingdom as our FIRST announcement. Many other deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation, to follow!”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told members of Congress on Tuesday that more trade deals are expected to be announced with at least 18 nations.

“I would think that perhaps as early as this week we will be announcing trade deals with some of our largest trading partners,” Secretary Bessent said during a House subcommittee hearing.

USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins will travel to Great Britain on Sunday and spend a week discussing trade details with UK officials.
