Federal Judge Finds Apple in Violation of Court Order

She moves to hold Apple in contempt for maintaining exclusive in-app transactions.

District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers held Apple in contempt last week, ruling that the company had violated a previous court order against a monopolistic business practice.

In 2021, the federal court found Apple to be in violation of antitrust laws by making its in-app digital transactions highly exclusive, preventing app developers from displaying alternate payment options within Apple applications. The court ordered Apple to allow alternative methods of payment in its apps, which Judge Gonzales Rogers found the company had not adequately implemented. Apple had imposed a 27 percent fee in lieu of the previous commission charge.

“Apple’s continued attempts to interfere with competition will not be tolerated,” Gonzalez Rogers wrote in her ruling. She ordered that Apple “no longer impede developers’ ability to communicate with users nor will they levy or impose a new commission on off-app purchases.”

A spokesperson for Apple said the company will appeal.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For federal judges to be discerning as they hear cases of monopolistic business practices.
  • For wisdom for Chair Ferguson as he heads the Federal Trade Commission.
  • For Director Chris Mufarrige as he oversees the Bureau of Consumer Protection.
