The first lady had advocated for the legislation protecting against AI-generated, “deepfake” porn.
The House of Representatives voted to pass the “Take It Down” Act this week to protect victims of AI-generated pornography. The bill, criminalizing deepfake porn, which adds the image of a victim’s face to a nude body, was introduced by Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.
The Senate passed this bill in February, so it heads to the president’s desk for his signature. President Donald Trump already indicated his willingness to sign this bill.
The “Take It Down” Act was championed by First Lady Melania Trump on its journey through Congress. The first lady plans to be present at the bill’s signing.
“Advancing this legislation has been a key focus since I returned to my role as First Lady this past January,” Mrs. Trump stated, celebrating the bill’s bipartisan passage. “I am honored to have contributed to guiding it through Congress.”
Those opposed to the bill expressed concerns that it could lead to censorship and issues under the First Amendment.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and first lady as they support shielding people from online exploitation and the use of their faces on pornographic images.
- For members of Congress to be discerning in their priorities and solutions to issues facing the American public.
