EPA Takes Steps to Address “Forever Chemicals” in Water Supply

The agency requested Congressional collaboration to curtail PFAS pollution in the U.S.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced actions this week to address polluting “forever chemicals” in the United States. This category of manmade chemicals, called per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) has become so pervasive in the nation’s water supply that it has been found within the human body in dangerous quantities, causing a number of health issues.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin designated an agency leader to spearhead PFAS management. He also announced plans to update PFAS Destruction and Disposal Guidance annually, to develop wastewater guidelines for PFAS manufacturers, implement air and water testing and detection under the Toxic Substances Control Act, and investigate and resolve under the Safe Drinking Water Act discovered dangers. Administrator Zeldin also requested that Congress develop legislation to reinforce the efforts of his agency.

“We are tackling PFAS from all of EPA’s program offices, advancing research and testing, stopping PFAS from getting into drinking water systems, holding polluters accountable, and providing certainty for passive receivers,” Administrator Zeldin said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Zeldin to be led by the Lord as he heads the effort to address PFAS in the environment.
  • For EPA officials to be prudent as they implement updates to testing, detection, and resolution of pollution.
