FBI Investigates Increase in Swatting Incidents

DHS secretary echos the commitment to bring false crisis reporters to justice.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel stated that his agency is looking into the increase in “swatting” incidents around the nation. The term refers to the false reporting of a life-threatening crisis in someone’s home that results in a police SWAT team arriving to address the situation. The team is generally heavily armed and ready to confront a threat. The hoax reports put the targeted victim and his or her family at risk.

Director Patel said, “The FBI is aware of this dangerous trend, and my team and I are already taking action to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.”

“Weaponizing law enforcement against ANY American is not only morally reprehensible but also endangers lives, including those of our officers,” the FBI director added. “That will not be tolerated. We are fully committed to working with local law enforcement to crack down on these crimes.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said, “[DHS] has the ability to trace phone numbers and track location information. We will use it to hunt these cowards down.”

Representative Brandon Gill of Texas co-sponsored a bill to increase penalties for swatting. He said, “This is an extremely dangerous form of political terrorism. It’s liable to get somebody killed, and it must end now.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Patel to lead the FBI with integrity as the agency investigates the swatting incidents.
  • For discernment for Secretary Noem as she heads the Department of Homeland Security and collaborates with the FBI on national security concerns.
