Brian Nelson
Under Secretary of Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence
Brian Eddie Nelson earned an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He received his Juris Doctor from Yale University.
Nelson clerked for judges in the U.S. District Court for Eastern Pennsylvania and the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He was then an associate at a multinational law firm. He served as special counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for National Security and later as special assistant attorney general and general counsel in the California Department of Justice.
Nelson became chief legal advisor and corporate secretary for the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games which are to be held in Los Angeles.
He was nominated to serve as Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence by President Joe Biden. He was confirmed by the Senate in December 2021.

Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Intelligence Brian Nelson announced that four companies and an executive have been sanctioned for their involvement in Iran’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) program.
“Today’s action reinforces our commitment to disrupt Iran’s production and proliferation of deadly UAVs that continue to be used by Russia against Ukraine and by regional terrorist proxies against our troops,” said Under Secretary Nelson. “Treasury will continue to impose costs on those who seek to procure the components Iran needs for its UAV programs and enable the shipment of these weapons to destabilizing actors around the world.”
