Says he will continue legislative duties as he undergoes treatment.
Representative Raúl Grijalva of Arizona announced this week that he has been diagnosed with cancer. A persistent cough was originally diagnosed as pneumonia a few weeks ago, but further testing discovered the actual source of his symptoms. He did not disclose what form of cancer had been identified and requested privacy for himself and his family.
Congressman Grijalva said that he will continue to fulfill his duties to his Congressional staffers and as a member of Congress. He currently serves as the ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee and is a member of three other committees.
“This diagnosis has been difficult to process, but I am confident in the vigorous course of treatment that my medical team has developed, and I’ve begun my journey to fight this cancer,” the congressman stated. “I am grateful to my family, friends, and doctors for their support, and I am working hard to get healthy and return to business as usual as soon as I am able.”
