PRAYER ALERT: Baltimore Bridge Collapse After Ship Collision

A cargo ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, causing the total collapse of the bridge.

Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge buckled and collapsed Tuesday morning at 1:28 AM after being struck by a container ship. It happened well ahead of morning rush hour commutes, but how many drivers were on the bridge at the time is unknown. The ship crashed into a main support structure for the bridge, causing it to buckle.

“Never would you think that you would see, physically see, the Key Bridge tumble down like that. It looked like something out of an action movie,” said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, calling it “an unthinkable tragedy.”

Maryland Governor Wes Moore declared a state of emergency and is working with federal officials to “quickly deploy federal resources from the Biden Administration.”

Maryland Senator Chris Van Hallen said, “I’m praying for those who were on the bridge, and I know there are urgent rescue efforts still underway. I’m thankful for the first responders and emergency crews who are at the scene and are working tirelessly on these efforts.”

It is currently unknown if there are any casualties. Search and rescue is still ongoing.

Officials expect that the sudden suspension of the cargo ship access Port of Baltimore is likely to have a major impact on international shipping and will have impacts on consumer goods and prices.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the families of those who lost loved ones in this tragedy.
  • For the state and local first responders who are actively helping on the ground and in the water.
  • For Governor Moore, Mayor Scott, and town officials to have wisdom as they help organize rescue and recovery efforts.
