Preeminent

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.         Deuteronomy 6:5

Everyone has a code, a set of priorities, for the way they will live their life. For some, it could be cultivating a belief in yourself and developing high self-esteem. For others, it may be living simply and in moderation. Yet others might say the goal is to be a good friend, treating others how they want to be treated. Live for the moment, educate yourself, keep a positive attitude, and stay out of debt are other creeds that people may embrace. What code do you live by?

The book of Deuteronomy is Moses’ recap of God’s instructions for the Hebrew people whose journey through the wilderness is nearing the end. They will soon enter the Promised Land, and Moses is reminding them of the code God gave them at Sinai for how they should conduct themselves. Deuteronomy stresses the uniqueness of God and why He is deserving of worship. Moses urges them to diligently keep all God’s commands and reiterates the promises God made to them. In the chapter before today’s verse, the Ten Commandments are restated as a refresher on how to live, and to keep God preeminent in their lives.

Loving God with all your heart, soul, and might means being totally sold out to Him in your life, your words, and your deeds. Through your conduct, your circle of influence will be far greater than you may think. From schools to the halls of government and through all forms of media, Americans are being indoctrinated into various ideologies. Some peddle humanism, intellectualism, materialism, or secularism. Choose to live by the code of conduct God has ordained, keeping Him first in your life. Pray for Christians in government to have the courage to speak the truth by God’s power in these days.

He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
