Ridiculous Hope

But as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.”            1 Corinthians 2:9

Think of all the fads that have come and gone in your lifetime. Depending on your generation, you may recall shag carpet or nose rings. The world of faith is not immune to the phenomenon of fads, you may remember the passing obsessions of Y2K or fish bumper stickers. However, in the faith realm, fads can become dangerous when some mistakenly equate participation with evidence of your love for God.

What does the life of one who loves God look like? A mirror of His nature! Just as Jesus is described as “the radiance and glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature” (Hebrews 1:3), those who love God model themselves after His Son, Jesus Christ. Over time, their life will look increasingly like His, full of faith and hope.

Because of the overcoming power of Christ, you realize nothing is impossible, any situation can be redeemed, and dead things can live again. The unbelieving world views your faith, and the hope that comes from it, as ridiculous and unimaginable. However, those acquainted with your God, who share your knowledge of Him, know hope is the logical response to His beautiful gifts of grace.

Examine your life today, where do you lack hope? Ask the Lord to help you trust Him, His love, and His desire for you in that area. Maintain hope in God’s purposes for the United States. Pray for leaders in the coming election cycle who will avoid passing political fads and who will seek God in their work.

Today’s Verse: 1 Corinthians 2:9

But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
