Today, Secretary of State Antony Blinken is delivering a keynote address at an event titled “Hostage Diplomacy as an International Security Threat: Strengthening our Collective Action, Deterrence and Response“ at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “The Secretary’s remarks will be followed by two panels discussing hostage diplomacy as a threat to international security and how the international community responds to and deters state actors who arbitrarily detain individuals for diplomatic leverage.“

Assistant Secretary of State for Conflict and Stabilization Operations Anne Witkowsky is in the United Kingdom for a dialogue on approaches to conflict resolution hosted by the Foreign, Commonwealth, & Development Office.

Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee and other U.S. diplomats are visiting Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this week to participate in the African Union Summit.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Blinken as he addresses hostage diplomacy as an international security threat.
  • For the assistant secretaries of state and their colleagues as they engage foreign ministers and heads of state.
  • For the president and his foreign policy advisors to receive God’s direction as they make decisions and take action.
