Defense Secretary Returns to Hospital

This time he officially transferred duties to the deputy secretary.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Sunday for a bladder issue. The Pentagon reported that he was transferred to critical care later in the day.

“At this time, it is not clear how long Secretary Austin will remain hospitalized,” the Pentagon stated. “The current bladder issue is not expected to change his anticipated full recovery. His cancer prognosis remains excellent. Updates on the Secretary’s condition will be provided as soon as possible.”

The Defense Department also announced, separately, that Secretary Austin had “transferred the functions and duties of the office of the Secretary of Defense to Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks.” At the beginning of the year, controversy arose when the defense secretary failed to disclose, for several days, that he had been in the hospital for complications after prostate surgery.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For healing for Secretary Austin as he deals with the bladder issue.
  • For the medical personnel attending the defense secretary.
  • For wisdom for Deputy Secretary Hicks as she temporarily oversees the nation’s defense.
