Tuesday, January 16

Today is the anniversary of the adoption of Thomas Jefferson’s Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom by the Virginia Assembly in 1786. President Joe Biden issued a proclamation commemorating Religious Freedom Day.

The president stated, “ The constitutional right to practice our faiths peacefully and openly is a core tenet of our democracy and helps us fulfill one of our highest aspirations as a Nation: to be a citadel of liberty and a beacon of freedom.“

President Biden added, “On Religious Freedom Day, we renew our pledge to protect that right by ensuring each person of any faith or belief can live out the deepest convictions of their conscience with dignity and respect.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and members of his administration to protect the free exercise of religion in the nation.
  • For legislators in Congress to be mindful of the liberties in the Bill of Rights and to create bills and acts accordingly.
  • For the justices and judges in the federal legal system to be discerning in their rulings on religious liberty.
