Dare to be a Daniel

 Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might.”       Daniel 2:20

The story of Daniel and the dream of Nebuchadnezzar may be familiar. All the wise men and magicians of Babylon had been bewildered by the king’s command that they tell him not only what his dream meant, but just what his dream was. Of course, they could not. But Daniel…

Those same wise men had come across Daniel in the king’s court before. They knew he had some kind of power but did not recognize that it had come from God. So if the king’s edict was to kill those wise men, they determined to kill Daniel also. Daniel sought out his friends and they prayed. It was then that God revealed to Daniel what the king’s dream was and its interpretation. That is when Daniel uttered the praise that is today’s verse.

You might not be faced with imminent death threats today, but there are unwise and unfriendly forces at work against you, and your spiritual battle, along with the battles of other believers in America, is increasing. Just as Daniel sought out godly friends to join him in prayer, it is important to the Christian walk that you fellowship in prayer and in meeting the needs of one another. Just as God did with Babylon, He holds the destiny of America. Keep your faith in the all-wise, all-powerful Father Who holds everything in the hollow of His Hand.

Today’s Verse: Daniel 2:20

Daniel answered and said:

“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
    to whom belong wisdom and might.

17 Then Daniel went to his house and made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, 18 and told them to seek mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his companions might not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. 19 Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. 20 Daniel answered and said:

“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
    to whom belong wisdom and might.
21 He changes times and seasons;
    he removes kings and sets up kings;
he gives wisdom to the wise
    and knowledge to those who have understanding;
22 he reveals deep and hidden things;
    he knows what is in the darkness,
    and the light dwells with him.
23 To you, O God of my fathers,
    I give thanks and praise,
for you have given me wisdom and might,
    and have now made known to me what we asked of you,
    for you have made known to us the king’s matter.”
