Commerce Department Reports Outdoor Recreation Revenue

Record highs within the sector show a bounce-back after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The outdoor recreation industry generated $1 trillion in gross domestic product (GDP) for America’s economy in 2022, according to a report released by the Department of Commerce this month. This represents a 4.8 percent increase between 2021 and 2022, significant when compared to the nation’s overall GDP of 1.9 percent during that span.

Travel and tourism accounted for 46 percent of this value, which Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo attributed to America reopening its borders in early 2022.

“Travel and tourism returned with force in 2022 as we opened up our country once again to visitors from around the globe,” said Secretary Raimondo. “Since day one of the Biden Administration, the Commerce Department has taken decisive actions to support this industry’s recovery.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Raimondo to be directed by the Lord as she heads the Commerce Department.
  • For Commerce Department personnel as they promote and support outdoor recreational travel.
