Senator Schumer Calls on Nation to Reject Antisemitism

He warns against allowing debate over events in Israel to cross over into hatred of Jewish people at large.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York gave a speech from the floor of the Senate in which he urged Americans to support the Jewish people, decrying the rise in antisemitism.

“I feel compelled to speak because I’m the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in America,” Senator Schumer began. “To us, the Jewish people, the rise of antisemitism is a crisis, a five-alarm fire that must be extinguished,” he said.

Senator Schumer continued, “To focus my remarks on antisemitism, because it hits so close to home for me, and because I believe this moment demands it. … I want to describe the fears and anxieties of many Jewish Americans right now, particularly after October 7, who feel there are aspects of the debate around Israel and Gaza that are crossing over into antisemitism, rank antisemitism, with Jewish people simply being targeted for being Jewish, having nothing to do with Israel.“

He added, “I want to explain, through the lens of history, why this is so dangerous. The normalization and exacerbation of this rise in hate is the danger many Jewish people fear most, and finally, I want to suggest how and why I hope that all Americans of good will can come together and do a better job of condemning such views and such behavior.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Schumer as he advocates against antisemitism in the United States.
  • For wisdom for U.S. governing officials as they address hate and discrimination.
  • For the protection of the Jewish people, both in the U.S. and in Israel.
  • For the peace of Jerusalem and for discernment for Israeli leaders.
