Today, the House Ways and Means Committee and its Social Security Subcommittee are holding a field hearing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Committee Chair Jason Smith of Missouri and Subcommittee Chair Drew Ferguson of Georgia will preside over the hearing titled Social Security’s Disservice to Public Servants: How the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset Mistreat Government Workers.
The Windfall Elimination Provision lowers the amount of retirement or disability benefits one is eligible to receive when Social Security taxes have not been withheld from someone’s salary by their employer. The Government Pension Offset is a deduction from Social Security when other government pension benefits are received.
