Who’s In Control?

The Lord of hosts has sworn, ‘As  I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand.’       Isaiah 14:24

“Precision“ is one word that can be applied to the prophecies of God. As you read through much of the Old Testament, you find passages that you later learn were prophecies that only Jesus the Messiah could fulfill. In the Old Testament, as well as the New, there remain prophecies that are not yet fulfilled, prophecies that await the timing of the Lord God Almighty. Corrie ten Boom once said, “There is no panic in Heaven! God has no problems, only plans.”

Notice that the Lord says His plans have purpose. Warren Wiersbe wrote, “The key word here is purpose. God is in control of the rise and fall of the nations as He works out His divine purposes in the world.” Matthew Henry stated, “Though God has many things in his purposes, he has nothing in his prophecies but that are in his purposes.” The Lord also has the power to make His purposes stand, and no one can thwart them.

Another theologian wrote that “one mark of spiritual maturity is the confident acceptance that God is in control without understanding the whys and whens of the happenings.” As you look at what has been occurring in the Middle East, remember that God can and does work in and through all nations, Gentiles and Jews alike, and He has determined the appointed times to show His sovereignty among humankind.  The Lord is in control and will accomplish His will. Trust Him with America’s future, and for the way He will act through the nation’s leaders. Pray for greater submission to His will across the nation.

Today’s Verse: Isaiah 14:24

The Lord of hosts has sworn:
“As I have planned,
    so shall it be,
and as I have purposed,
    so shall it stand,

15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
