No Clear Front Runner in Selection of House Speaker

The war in Israel is adding pressure for a decision.

None of the individuals under consideration for Speaker of the House has a clear path to the position, though many House members had hoped for a resolution this week. Two House members, Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio, have emerged as having the most potential.

The war in Israel has caused some House members to call for the return of deposed Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California. Another urgent concern regarding the speaker selection is the continuing resolution which will expire in mid-November.

Representative Michael McCaul of Texas, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, said, “The world is watching what’s happening, and we need to come together and unify behind a Speaker.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for members of the House as they seek to determine the next speaker to head the lower chamber of Congress.
  • For the candidates for Speaker of the House to seek God’s direction regarding the possibility of serving in the role.
  • For God’s purposes to be accomplished as the representatives consider their options.
