September 26th – Tuesday

“Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” – Matthew 25:21

On this day in 1789 the first U.S. Attorney General, Edmund Jennings Randolph, was appointed. That day, Thomas Jefferson was also appointed as the first Secretary of State, John Jay was made the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and Samuel Osgood was chosen as first Postmaster-General. Over time, these roles have morphed to fit the growth of the United States. As you meditate on the beginnings of this nation’s governing infrastructure, take a moment to reflect on the people God has used to grow your faith and trust in Him. Thank Him and praise Him for the “infrastructure” of His family and the support of other believers in the body of Christ. Seek the Lord’s leading for how you can offer assistance or encouragement to those around you today. Remember that you are a citizen of His kingdom first!

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Secretary of State Blinken and Postmaster-General Dejoy as they carry out their duties of office.
  • For Chief Justice Roberts and Attorney General Garland as they fulfill their roles in the U.S. government.
