Homeland Security Appoints Chief AI Officer

The new role will oversee AI policies introduced by the AI Task Force.

The Department of Homeland Security recently announced that Chief Information Officer Eric Hysen has been appointed as the department’s first Chief AI Officer. Hysen will continue to serve as the department’s CIO while also managing AI safety and innovation within the DHS. He will also serve and advise Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on policy development for AI use by department employees.

“Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool we must harness effectively and responsibly,” said Secretary Mayorkas. “I am grateful that Eric Hysen, who already co-chairs our Artificial Intelligence Task Force, has agreed to serve as our Department’s first Chief AI Officer, providing the leadership and experience necessary to harness AI’s enormous potential and ensure its responsible use across DHS.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Mayorkas to seek the Lord’s guidance as he heads DHS.
  • For CIO Hysen as he takes on the role of Chief AI Officer within the department.
