Following God’s GPS

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy.    Psalm 16:11

The global positioning system (GPS) was established by the U.S. Department of Defense in 1973. In the mid-1980s, it became available for civilian use, and today new vehicles come equipped with it as a standard item. The navigational system relies on satellites and other integrated communications systems to tell you (and others who may need to know) just where you are and how to get where you want to go. When you use your GPS, there is comfort in its reliability and confidence that you will not get lost.

God has set out a pathway for you. There is a general walk of faith He has established for all who belong to Him, and then, through study and prayer, He reveals your own personal path. As you obediently follow His leading, the Lord reveals the next step and the one after that. You can travel His pathway with confidence; your safe arrival is assured. And His promise for you is joy!

As you do a “satellite position” flyover of the United States today, you see people spiritually going a lot different ways—many are on paths that will only lead to destruction. “There is a way that seems right to a man but its end is the way to death” (Proverbs 14:12). Pray for those who are heading the wrong way to stop and listen to the voice of Jesus who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Ask the Lord to show you how to come alongside someone today and show them that God has the only true GPS for their life journey. Pray for the nation’s leaders to sense their need to seek and to find Him.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life;
    in your presence there is fullness of joy;
    at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
    let me not be put to shame;
    let not my enemies exult over me.
3 Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame;
    they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
    teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth and teach me,
    for you are the God of my salvation;
    for you I wait all the day long.

6 Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
    for they have been from of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
    according to your steadfast love remember me,
    for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!

8 Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9 He leads the humble in what is right,
    and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
    for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

11 For your name’s sake, O Lord,
    pardon my guilt, for it is great.
12 Who is the man who fears the Lord?
    Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.
13 His soul shall abide in well-being,
    and his offspring shall inherit the land.
14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
    and he makes known to them his covenant.
