August 31st – Thursday

You shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him. – Malachi 3:18

Have you ever wondered what it means to serve God? Some think that being a pastor, Sunday school teacher, missionary, or leading a ministry is what you have to do. However, there are many examples throughout Scripture of people serving the Lord in various capacities. Lydia sold purple cloth for a living yet served the Lord through her hospitality. Some people provided a place for Jesus to stay during His ministry on Earth. David was a shepherd. No matter how large or small your vocation may seem, serve the Lord in all you do. Being patient and merciful while driving in traffic, helping an elderly or a convalescing person with their groceries, or even bandaging a scraped knee are all witnesses for His kingdom. What may seem small to you may be big to someone else. Pray today for ways to serve your Lord as sometimes you are the only Jesus that others will see. Shine brightly for Him!

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For public officials who know Jesus as Lord and Savior to be true to His calling upon their lives.
  • For the Lord to draw the hearts of Americans who are living in spiritual bondage to freedom in Christ.
