Representative Scalise Diagnosed with Blood Cancer

The congressman from Louisiana calls the condition “very treatable” as he begins treatments.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana has been given a diagnosis of multiple myeloma, a blood cancer. He announced that he had begun treatment which will last for several months.

Congressman Scalise stated, “I expect to work through this period and intend to return to continuing my work as Majority Leader and serving the people of Louisiana’s First Congressional District. I am incredibly grateful we were able to detect this early and that this cancer is treatable. I am thankful for my excellent medical team, and with the help of God, support of my family, friends, colleagues, and constituents, I will tackle this with the same strength and energy as I have tackled past challenges.”

Speaker Kevin McCarthy said, “I wish him a speedy treatment as we continue to work together to get our country back on track and keep our Commitment to America. I invite everyone in the nation to keep Steve and his family in your prayers.“

“Steve has been a fighter his whole life,” Congressman Kevin Hern of Oklahoma stated. “I know he will face this diagnosis head on. Wishing him a quick recovery so we can have his voice back in DC.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For healing for Representative Scalise as he undergoes treatment for multiple myeloma.
  • For wisdom for the medical team who is treating Representative Scalise for the cancer.
  • For the congressman’s family and friends as they offer and receive support during his illness.
