August 25th – Friday

For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. – 1 Corinthians 2:16

The U.S. Department of Interior created the National Park Service agency on this day in 1916. This federal agency oversees national parks, national monuments, and other natural and historical sites and is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Conservationist Stephen Mather and journalist Robert Sterling Yard were influential in the establishment of the agency. They led a publicity campaign that highlighted the beauty, educational value, and recreational opportunities offered by parks. As a result, President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Organic Act 107 years ago. Mather served as the agency’s first director to preserve and manage the nation’s public lands. Take a moment to thank God for the beauty that is around you and pray for all those who serve in federal agencies to steward the nation’s natural resources and cultural heritage.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Interior Secretary Deb Haaland as she oversees the various agencies tasked with stewarding public lands.
  • For Director Chuck Sams as he oversees the National Parks Service.
