DOD Announces Winners of Dissertation Competition

Minerva Research Initiative awards fellowships to doctoral candidates.

The Department of Defense announced the winners of the 2023-2024 “Peace and Security Dissertation Fellowship,” providing up to $20,000 in fellowships to the winning doctoral candidates. More than 113 applicants submitted their dissertations on security policies to the department’s Minerva Research Initiative. This year 21 were selected for their unique insights into potential peacebuilding strategies.

“These awards complement the efforts of [the U.S. Institute of Peace’s] Peace Scholar Fellowship Program to expand support for advanced graduate students and create opportunities for ongoing engagement,” said Defense Department Director of Social Science David Montgomery. “We are proud of the doctoral candidates being funded through this collaboration and look forward to seeing their projects develop.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Montgomery as he facilitates the Peace and Security Dissertation Fellowship awards.
  • For Defense Department officials as they support scientific research and development.
  • For the president and his defense advisors as they construct peacebuilding strategies.
