August 3rd – Thursday

It is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment. – Philippians 1:9

In Paul’s letter to the people of Philippi, he urges them to not just grow in knowledge and discernment but to develop the ability to love more and more. Jesus went out of His way to show His love for people during His earthly ministry. He then showed the ultimate love by dying on the cross, taking the penalty for the sins of humankind. He said there is no greater love than to lay down your life (John 15:13). There are varying degrees of sacrifice when it comes to loving others. Sometimes it may be as simple as buying someone lunch or giving a neighbor a helping hand. In other circumstances, love requires trusting God to work His healing and restoration in your soul and spirit, as you pray for those who have been damaging or wounding to you. Intercede today on behalf of governing officials, that they would accept God’s loving forgiveness and then be examples of His character to others.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For governing officials who do not know the Lord to be drawn to faith in the Savior, Jesus Christ.
  • For God to work in and through the president and his Cabinet to accomplish His purposes.
