Bill Would Create “New Americans” Office

It would aid migrants and refugees in adapting to U.S. life.

Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts and Representative Grace Meng of New York have introduced the National Office of New Americans Act, a bill that would aid refugees and migrants to blend into the “social, cultural, economic and civil” life of the United States. The goal, the legislators said, is to support recently-arrived people while promoting the pursuit of American citizenship.

Senator Markey said, “Our economy and communities are stronger because of the immigrant families who have enriched our nation since its founding. [The Act] provides new immigrants with the resources to participate fully in our economic and civic life so that they can not only survive in our nation—but thrive.”

Representative Meng stated, “The United States is a great nation because of its rich and diverse immigrant communities. When we invest in helping new Americans thrive and integrate into our country we are investing in our future generations.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Markey and Congresswoman Mend as they promote the welcoming legislation.
  • For wisdom for members of both chambers of Congress as they consider the bill.
