If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! – Matthew 7:11

The Supreme Court unanimously ruled, on this day in 1974, that President Richard Nixon did not have the authority to withhold tapes that had been subpoenaed by Congress. This was a turning point in the Watergate scandal that ultimately led to President Nixon’s resignation. The tapes were discovered to contain the president’s plan to cover up the actions that had taken place after the break-in of the Watergate Hotel. The House Judiciary Committee approved three articles of impeachment as a result. Each of the three branches of government is intended to balance the power and limit the control of the other branches. The nation’s founders hoped to curb tyranny and corruption through the system of the federal republic. Ask God today to help elected officials and bureaucrats to serve in their positions with honesty and integrity.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For the justices of the Supreme Court as they determine which cases they will hear in their upcoming term.
  • For the president to respect and adhere to the tenets and limitations upon his office by the Constitution.
