July 15th – Saturday

Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before me. – Isaiah 49:16

On this day in 1779, General Anthony Wayne led 1,300 Continental soldiers in the attack on Fort Stony Point in New York, taking it back from British occupation. General Henry Clinton had previously led British forces to raid various port cities and then the American forts at Lafayette and Stony Point. General Clinton’s goal was to ultimately capture West Point. General George Washington devised a strategy with General Wayne for a surprise attack on Fort Stony Point. Soon after midnight, the fort was infiltrated by 200 American soldiers. The sleeping British soldiers were startled, and the Continental Army was able to quickly overtake the fort, though there were some casualties. After recapturing the fort, General Washington and the Continental Army retrieved the cannons and other artillery, and Washington decided to destroy the fort to prevent it from being captured again.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Secretary Lloyd Austin as he heads the Department of Defense.
  • For U.S. military commanders in the various posts around the world as they respond to increasing hostilities.
