Crisis Management

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him.     Psalm 62:8

Many large corporations maintain business interruption insurance, while others may include directors of business continuity. The purposes are the same: the protection of business from hazardous outside issues that could prove costly. Some have called Psalm 62, King David’s plan for crisis management, and not for him alone, but for all of the people over whom he ruled in Israel.

Today’s verse highlights the number one task in his kingdom’s crisis management program—trust in the Lord at all times. To trust God in a time of crisis, David’s people had to have learned to rely on the Lord in everything. David modeled this confidence that, in every circumstance, the Lord would be there. The next part of today’s verse tells you to stay in prayer—make it a continual practice to pour your heart out before the One who loves you and always has you on His Mind (Psalm 139:17-18, Isaiah 49:15).

How do you handle a crisis? A psychologist in a California behavioral health agency suggests you prepare ahead of time with thoughts and even programs, as well as those things that provide you physical support, or have on hand the phone number of an expert. Better yet, do as the Lord, through David’s writing, instructs you to do: Trust Him at all times. Take heart and keep believing even as you wait. And keep praying.

Pray for America’s military leaders today to provide the best defense for the nation. Ask God to draw their hearts to Him so they seek His wisdom on how to handle any crisis situation.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 62:8

Trust in him at all times, O people;
    pour out your heart before him;
    God is a refuge for us.

1 For God alone my soul waits in silence;
    from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my salvation and my glory;
    my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
    pour out your heart before him;
    God is a refuge for us. Selah

9 Those of low estate are but a breath;
    those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
    they are together lighter than a breath.
10 Put no trust in extortion;
    set no vain hopes on robbery;
    if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

11 Once God has spoken;
    twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12     and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man
    according to his work.
