Knowing Him

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind.    Numbers 23:19

There are many kinds of prophets recorded in the pages of the Old Testament. The story of one wicked man, Balaam, is particularly interesting in that while his heart was set against God, he repeatedly emphasized one of God’s most beautiful and comforting attributes… God is not a man! Balaam testified that God does not suffer from human foibles. Instead, He is full of truth, and does not lie – He does what He says He will do, every time. While Balaam knew the truth of God’s character, he refused a personal relationship with Him out of a desire for worldly wealth and acceptance. Many people today make similar decisions.

The first step in knowing God personally rather than merely having knowledge about Him is to surrender to His goodness. Accept the sacrifice of His son for your sin and invite His Spirit to indwell your heart. As you allow the Holy Spirit to fill your being, He makes the scriptures come alive and, through prayer, you develop an ear for His voice.

God will always lead you according to His character. Ask the Lord today to reveal any areas you have tried to justify not walking with Him. God does not change the attributes of His holiness based on cultural norms.

Pray for those making policy in America’s halls of law and justice to seek God, surrender their ideas to Him, and know Him personally and not just in name.

Today’s Verse: Numbers 23:19

God is not man, that he should lie,
or a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Has he said, and will he not do it?
Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
