Everything Always

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.    James 1:17

Change is everywhere! From the hairs on your head to the ideas in your mind, there is nothing in your life that is not “in process.” Everything including the earth you are standing upon – all people, the animals, and even the shape of the universe itself – is changing.  But not God.

Why is it important to understand the immutable nature of God? If God were changing, it would mean He is progressing or recessing in some kind of chronological order, either getting better or worse over time. Yet, God’s existence has no progression, He is timeless and perfect. He is completely and always able to provide everything you need: love, forgiveness, comfort, and restoration, all always available, with no waiting.

Unlike humans who are strong in some areas and lacking in others, God is pure perfection. His love is not greater than His mercy or His justice. His kindness is just as deep as His wisdom. His character is consistent, always completely complete! And most importantly, His sufficiency enables you to overcome sin and its effects. Through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ, you are fully equipped to face any challenge imaginable and to assist others as well. God’s perfection is the wellspring of every beautiful gift you may ever desire.

Ask the Lord to help you understand His perfect character and what it means in your life. Bring His blessing and presence into your world by discovering Him more. Pray that those governing America will look to God’s perfect wisdom in making decisions and directing the nation.

Today’s Verse: James 1:17

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2     He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
3     He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for his name’s sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.
